Mogadishu, Somali: At least 11 people are confirmed to have died and several others injured after a car bomb exploded in Somalia’s c apital Mogadishu on Monday afternoon.
According to authorities in Somalia, the car bomb which is suspected to have been planted by Al Shabaab terrorists exploded at a shopping mall close to Mogadishu’s local government offices. Mohamed Hussein, a senior Police officer, said 10 people were also injured in the Monday  blast. “Several dead people were removed from a wrecked building at the blast scene. So far the death toll is 11 civilians and 10 others injured,” Hussein told the press. However, the death toll had earlier on been put at nine, although the number is expected to rise. Ahmed Moalin Ali, also a police officer, said that  “The blast occurred close to Mogadishu mall and it has caused death and destruction…” He added that “The terrorists parked a vehicle loaded with explosives in the vicinity of the mall and exploded it to kill innocent civilians.”He said some of the victims died in a building that collapsed as a result of the blast in the Hamarweyne market.
Meanhwile, local security officials said the armed group killed also the Maltese manager of Bossasso port in Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland state on Monday. The attacks however comes a few weeks after the peacekeeping UPDF forces that were serving under the African Mission for Somalia (AMISOM) returning to Uganda from Somalia. (Zolpidem) It is also a few days after the Al-Shabaab terrorists attack Dusit Hotel Complex in Kenya, in which several people perished.
