Kampala: The first son dubbed Commander of Land Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba has praised Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) after arresting Howard Jakernga Openjuru, the leader of Uganda Homeland Liberation Force (UHLF) – a rebel movement that reportedly attacked a UPDF detach in Zombo, West Nile in July 2021.
“Openjuru resisted arrest in his safe house but CMI operatives overpowered him and others,” noted a source saying that security operatives did not use gunfire during the scuffle with Openjuru and he is expected to be interrogated over his subversive activities.
The daring attack in Zombo – about 485kms from the Capital City Kampala, left two soldiers dead and others wounded.
In another attack in 2020, the same rebel movement reportedly killed five soldiers before fleeing back to the jungles in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Now via his Twitter handle, jubilant Muhoozi has noted, ”Ugandan intelligence has arrested the leader of the so-called Uganda Homeland Liberation Force, Openjuru Howard, inside the country. It was a carefully planned operation that took many months. CMI is proving that it is a truly excellent intelligence service. Uganda ni hatari!”
