Kampala: Presidential aspirant, Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde has officially unveiled his political platform under which he will contest in, for hunt of votes with hope to unseat President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni come 2021 general elections.
Tumukunde will contest as an independent candidate under his political platform dubbed “Renewed Uganda” that runs under orange colour with the slogan ‘Kisoboka’ literally meaning ‘it is possible.’
While giving the keynote address at the launch held at his residence in Kololo, Kampala today, Tumukunde promised that he will strongly consider the youth who comprise the majority of the voters once he ascends to the State House.
“We are targeting the Ugandans who give us their votes. I want to assure the youth that I will consider you once I get there,” Gen Tumukunde pledged.
According to Gen.Tumukunde, “a renewed Uganda” needs accelerating mechanisation of agriculture, investing in renewable energy, reviving how people work together to produce (by reintroducing co-operatives and a special credit line to women and youth using correct channels, addressing issues of cost of money and prudent utilisation of public resources).
The retired army chief said his government will champion the fourth industrial revolution and invest in research with intention to amend the curriculum to focus on producing Ugandans ready for self-employment.
Presidential campaigns will kick off on November 10 and end on January 8, 2021, according to the current roadmap for elections.
At the launch, Gen Tumukunde revealed that soon he’ll be releasing a comprehensive manifesto, campaign team and also regional coordinators, among others tasked to popularise his candidature and also secure support of the voters ahead of next year’s polls.
