The 2021 presidential race has taken a dramatic turn after journalist Andrew Mwenda decided to join the People Power/National Unity Platform (NUP) alliance, such that he can contest against Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, who is the flag bearer.

Mwenda, proprietor of the Independent Magazine, picked nomination forms from the People Power headquarters in Kamwokya on Friday morning, and vowed that he will contest in the primaries against Bobi Wine and that if he wins, he will automatically become the NUP presidential flag bearer.

Shortly after picking the People Power nomination forms, Mwenda announced that he is challenging Bobi Wine to public debate at a time of his convenience, such that the people can judge for themselves who is presidential material and who isn’t.

However, Bobi Wine has not yet responded to Mwenda’s taunts or expressed intentions to engage in a public debate with him.

It should be noted that Mwenda a staunch National Resistance Movement (NRM) enthusiast who is very close to President Yoweri Museveni, who has been very critic of Bobi Wine in the recent past and often describe his People Power pressure group as a bunch of hooligans.
