NRM Top Honcho Min. Mukisa Breathes His Last

Uganda’s ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in particular, and the nation at large mourn the untimely demise of former minister Hon. Fred Mukisa, a gallant  son of Uganda.

Hon. Mukisa passed away yesterday Sunday after a longtime battle against cancer, according to family sources and sources at the NRM Secretariat.

Prior to his demise, Mukisa served an illustrious career as a people’s representative, Minister, District Administrator (DA) member of NRM C.E.C representing the historical league and other distinguished capacities.

As DA of Jinja district between 1987-88, together with Capt. Abbey Mukwaya, who was DA in Iganga, they were instrumental in defeating the enigmatic rebels of Alice Lakwena.

He was to re-enact the feat later as Member of Parliament (MP) when he assisted government to wipe out Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) cells in and around his Bukhooli Central constituency.

The NRM thank God for a life well lived and pray to the Almighty to grant him eternal rest.

After this tragic and sad news of his demise, the NRM party top leadership came out yesterday and sent its heartfelt condolences to the family,the people of Busoga and the country at large.

Justine Kasule Lumumba, the NRM Secretary General, revealed on Monday morning that Hon. Mukisa will be accorded a state burial and that government has undertaken preparations for the same.

Mukisa served as the State Minister for Fisheries from June 1, 2006 until May 27, 2011 following a cabinet reshuffle when he was dropped by President Museveni and replaced with Ruth Nankabirwa.

  • He started as a teacher of Economics and Accounting, in a high school in Kenya, from 1976 until 1978.
  • In a space of about six months from November 2010 until May 2011, he lost both his parliamentary seat in a primary election and his cabinet post in a cabinet reshuffle. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
