A man died in a vehicle in the parking lot of a Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) branch along Mbarara–Kabale Highway.
The deceased was identified as Robert Mpiima, a 32 yr old who hails from Sekati Village, Mpererwe in Kawempe, according to the details from the deceased’s national identification card.
Police in Mbarara was called at around 2pm after he was found in the driver’s seat of a Toyota Land Cruiser TX, registration number UAS 205D, with breathing difficulties.
“We were called by some people who wanted a parking space in the same parking lot. They called us after opening the vehicle and found him struggling with his breath” Jaffar Magyezi the Mbarara District Police Commander said.
It is thought that the deceased was from KCB where he banked money.
According to an eyewitness, the deceased exited the bank, opened his car, and reversed it before parking it.
“We later realised that there was a problem when it took him long to drive off as other drivers kept on hooting, requesting for the parking space in vain. We opened the vehicle to rush him to the hospital but was already dead,” the eyewitness.
The body was taken to Mbarara Hospital for a post-mortem while the vehicle was taken to Mbarara Police Station.
Police recovered drugs in the passenger seat and it is suspected that the deceased had heart related issues that could have led to his death.
Magyezi told The Spy that Police was still investigating to find out the owner of the vehicle and where the deceased worked.
