4 Netted Over Printing Counterfeit Money

Kampala: Four people have been arrested by police in Kampala for allegedly defrauding people by claiming to have the capacity to print money.The suspects have been identified as David Wambuzi, Gordon Kavuma, Leila Malika and one Alice.

Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango  said the suspects defrauded unsuspecting Ugandans of over Shs30 million after promising to sell to them a money printing machine. The victims were duped to first send the money in order to acquire the whole machine. “They deceived victims that their money would be multiplied. We believe this group has defrauded very many people claiming that they have money printing machine,” Onyango said.

The detained are also suspected to have been circulating counterfeit money in Uganda. Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) records of 2018 show Ugandans lost Shs11 billion to land and property fraudsters. People were duped with fake money making deals, fake land titles, and duplicate foreign currencies. Onyango said some of the victims were conned in Kireka Trading Centre in Wakiso District. Police said Kavuma is detained at Jinja Road Police Station while others are detained at Kira Road police station as investigations into  the matter continue, after which they will be paraded in court to answer to respective charges.
