Moscow: At least 41 people are confirmed to have died in a tragic plane crash that occurred in Russia.
The deceased were burnt to death after a passenger plane erupted into a fireball during an emergency landing in Moscow. The Aeroflot aircraft burst into flames at Sheremetyevo airport after hitting the runway on Sunday evening. Initially it was stated that 13 people, including two children, had been killed. However investigators confirmed later that 41 had died in the blaze. Speaking in a statement, the Russian Investigative Committee said: ‘There were 78 people on board, including five crew members.
But according to updated information, 37 out of them survived.’ A video on Russian news channel Rossiya-24 showed the plane, a Sukhoi SSJ-100 regional jet, landing with large flames engulfing the rear section.
Passengers were seen fleeing from the aircraft using emergency slides as billows of fire engulfed the aircraft. The plane had reportedly taken off for the northern city of Murmansk, but a fire broke out while it was in the air and it returned to Sheremetyevo.
