5 Passengers Perish After Sugarcane Truck Rams Into Taxi

At least 5 people are confirmed to have died is a horrible accident that occurred in Walugogo village, Bukoyo zone, along the Jinja-Iganga Road, on Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy happened after a truck carrying sugarcanes lost control and rammed into a taxi registration number UAU 862U which was heading to Iganga from Kampala, and fell on it.

Several passengers, plus the driver and conductor reportedly died after their bodies got mangled in the taxi wreckage.

Rescuers at the scene had to hack and saw the wreckage such that they could pull out the bodies.

However, the truck driver and his turn boy fled immediately after the accident and to date the police are hunting for them to record a statement about what caused the accident.

However, by press time the police had not yet identified many of the bodies, although they were driven to Jinja Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

The police are yet to issue a statement about what this horrible incident and the exact number of the bodies.
