Kamuli:At least 9 people have been arrested for allegedly gang raping a female student in Kamuli district, Eastern Uganda till she died.
The suspects, names withheld on police request, were arrested by police in Kamuli in connection with the gang rape and murder of Tapenensi Taweeka, a 17-year-old, S4 student of Busota S.S.S. Sources reveal that Taweeka was allegedly leaving school on April 22nd, 2019 when unknown goons waylaid and gang raped her, before strangling her and leaving the body lying in a bush. The body was found in a wetland, along Bulegeya road in Kitayundwa Sub County on Thursday last week. Eyewitnesses who recovered the body reported the matter at Kamuli central police station, which prompted detectives to start hunting for the ruthless beasts.
A postmortem report released by Kamuli General Hospital mortuary indicates that Taweeka died of strangulation, after being gang raped. Thomas Isabirye, the deceased’s father alleges that some of the suspects are his neighbors. Busoga North Police Spokesperson, Michael Kasadha, says that “The suspects were arrested from the districts of Jinja and Kamuli.” He added that “The prime suspect is still at large and police is hunting for him.”
