Entebbe: Police in Entebbe is investigating circumstances under which nine (9) people were involved in fake gold dealings worth USD160000 ( Shs 576m).
As a result, nine people are being held at Aviation Police Station in Entebbe to help in investigation.
They include Dorcus Chibasi, Samson Onyango Wesonga a Kenyan National, Godfrey Kadimba, a security guard at Rangers Security Limited, Manda Mpoyi Rajiv a Congolese national,Immaculate Nsimire a receptionist at Gold Soko Africa Limited, Bachigeya Milenge and Hagen sadiki Mustafa Ahongeze-all workers of Gold Soko Africa Limited.
The suspects were arrested from Entebbe and brought to Kampala before a search at their other premises in Kiwafu, Kansanga in Makindye Division.
Exhibits recovered included 15 and a half rolls of brass rods, a fake gold refinery at Gold Soko Africa Limited premises in Kiwafu estates Kasanga, horse pipes, brass rods, powder, two pairs of radio communication chargers, motor vehicle registration number UAS 356S, CCTV cameras, trade licenses and stamps among others.
Deputy Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrests saying the detained suspects will help in the investigation and that the arrests followed a tip-off by Adham Eltejani 45, a Sudan national whom he (Onyango) said reported a case of gold theft valued at USD160000 (10kgs) at Entebbe Police Station prompting an investigation that kicked off on June 6, 2018 that led to the arrest of the said suspects.
He however warned the public against their involvement in dubious or suspicious deals advising that gold is best verified through a laboratory test.
“The suspects are being charged with theft but State Attorney will advise accordingly,”
He said.
