State House Anti-Corruption Unit Arrests Arua City PDM Chairperson, Remanded For Over Extortion

Kampala: The State House Anti-Corruption Unit working with Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) have arrested and arraigned Edoni Bernard, the Chairperson PDM Pangisa ward in Arua City on allegations of extortion through selling fake copies of the PDM Constitution to the 50 groups of associations under Pangisa ward.

It’s allegedly that in July 2023, Edoni Bernard and others still at large, at Ojulua Cell in Arua City convened a meeting with the 50 PDM associations in Pangisa Ward in Arua City and demanded each group to pay UGX 15,000/= allegedly for the purchase of PDM constitutions.

Edoni, who is directly responsible for mobilization of the groups, extorted the UGX15,000, claiming that it was for printing and went ahead to sell fake Constitutions to the members.

Edon has been remanded until 5/12/2023.

The State House Anti Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) in one year, 2022, managed to recover Ugx35.484bn from corruption masters of this country, annual report revealed.

The Unit also managed to arrest and arraign in court over 448 suspects. Among these, courts convicted 70 culprits including government accounting Officers, Executive Officers, managing directors, Secretaries of Commission, CAOs, and Town Clerks.

SH-ACU was established under Article 99(4) of the constitution of Uganda, which gives the President executive powers to either directly or indirectly perform his duties or through officers subordinate to him.

Launched on 10th December 2018, SH-ACU coordinates with all constitutionally mandated agencies to ensure corruption free country.

The Unit also acts as a link between H.E. the President, citizens, and Anti- Corruption agencies in relation to Anti-Corruption issues.
