Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) opened its door to teach Ugandan children in 1993, at its Bukoto campus and 30 years down the road , it has since grown to be the leading international school in Uganda

The school has thus organized festivities and fun activities to mark the 30 years of excellence and the annula Christmas fair happening tomorrow November 25, 2023 at the school premises.

KISU provides a broad, balanced curriculum based upon the National Curriculum for England, IGCSEs (Cambridge) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, adapted to reflect the international nature of the school’s community and its location in Uganda.

KISU, located at Plot No. 447, Block 213, Old Kira Road, Bukoto, Kampala, Uganda boosts of State-of-the-art facilities including four science labs, three computer labs, three music rooms, three performance areas, an indoor gym, outdoor basketball court, 25 metre eight lane competition swimming pool, two libraries, smart boards in most classrooms and a five acre playing field.

Students participate in an extensive range of extracurricular activities including outdoor education and overseas trips, to diverse destinations such as The UK, France, Italy, Mount Kilimanjaro and a yearly ski trip in Europe. The holistic education also fosters involvement in community building activities..

Kampala International School of Uganda (usually called KISU) has a primary section for students aged 2 to approximately 10/11 years of age. The school broadly follows the National Curriculum for England, modified to take into account the school’s location and international student body.

KISU’s Early year’s department incorporates KG2 (2 years of age), KG3 (3 years of age) and Reception (4 years of age).

Key Stage 1 (KS1) incorporates Year 1 (5 years of age) and Year 2 (6 years of age).

Key Stage 2 (KS2) incorporates Year 3 (7 years of age), Year 4 (8 years of age), Year 5 (9 years of age) and Year 6 (10 years of age)

Primary School

In the Primary section, there are 2 or 3 classes per year group, depending on student numbers. Each class has both a teacher and at least one Teaching Assistant (T.A.).

Secondary school

Secondary is from Years 7-13.

Stage 3 incorporates Years 7-9 (approx 11-14 years of age) and these students continue to study the National Curriculum for England, modified to reflect the nature of the school.

In Years 10 and 11 (15 to 16 years of age) students study an IGCSE programme (similar to UK IGCSEs but more international in nature). These examinations are undertaken through Cambridge University and assessed by external examinations at the end of Year 11.

In Years 12 and 13 (17 and 18 years of age) students study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, a 2-year course undertaken through the International Baccalaureate Organisation.

It encourages active, creative and independent learners who take pride in all that they do by providing a safe, welcoming, secure and stimulating environment in which positive self-esteem, acceptance and understanding are promoted.

KISU’s bespoke curriculum model has been carefully designed to offer seamless progression across the whole age range, be relevant to social, cultural and geographical context, suit the needs of students as learners, take account of the needs of families who are often moving on to new international contexts after three or four years and to incorporate the pedagogical values, principles and approaches that we as educationalists believe in and know to result in learning that is deep, lasting and transferable.
KISU is fully accredited by CIS and are also an IBO “World School”. KISU has a very strong record for academic achievement with results for the IB Diploma that are consistently and significantly above the world average.
