Kampala: Victoria University Kampala (VU) has announced new courses accredited by Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) to enable some of their students to acquire practical skills and knowledge as some of the requirements for the job market in Uganda and beyond.
According to Management at Victoria University, the new certificate courses which are fully accredited by UBTEB are available for students who may have not acquired direct entry into A ‘level or University due to their performance in the O’ and A’ Level exams.
“We have identified a pressing issue: Many students’ futures are compromised by financial hurdles or an educational emphasis on grades over competencies at O & A level. Some students graduate from certain universities, with no skills to navigate the world of work. To address this, we are launching highly practical and hands-on UBTEB-accredited certificate programmes focused on skill development and practical knowledge,” the University said.
“These programmes not only prepare students for immediate employment but also offer pathways to further education, including diploma and degree courses. They are also ideal for graduates seeking to enhance their skill set,” the University added.
Further more, Victoria University noted that the two-year academic programmes which are purely practical and skill-based will enable learners to secure immediate employment as well as foundation for further education in diploma and degree courses.
Some of the UBTEB courses available at the university include; Certificate in Hotel and Institutional Catering, Certificate in Clearing and Forwarding, Certificate in Tourism and Hospitality Management, Certificate in Journalism and Media Studies, Certificate in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering and Agriculture studies.

Upon admission, the University starts with the Career Readiness and Employability Programme, and students later join the Work Integrated Learning stage, where students are sent to various companies, schools, and industries to fit in the real world of work, even before graduation, with no hassle.
Meanwhile, the University has waived off registration fees for the upcoming intake for 2024 academic calendar, urging potential students, especially S.6 vacists to enroll now without having to wait for UACE Results.
