Kampala: The Anti-Corruption Court this week remanded Francis Wodero, a URA officer over abuse of office leading to revenue loss. Presiding over the case, Her Worship Asiimwe Esther charged Wodero with uplifting Value Added Tax (VAT) amounting toUGX 301,100,831/= without lawful justification.
Prosecution led by Hilda Atusimiire and Patricia Ndagire told the court that Wodero skipped bond on June 8th 2024 and was arrested on June 24th 2024 at 9:00pm.

“On the 29th Dec 2021, Wodero, while being employed as a Tax Officer at URA, without lawful justification uplifted VAT in favour of Service and Computer Industries (U) Ltd for August 2014 to April 2015 claiming that the assessment was raised to take care of the credit notes, whereas not,” Atusimiire told court.
The accused Wodero denied the charges against him and applied for bail. His lawyer, Herbert Kidiya presented two sureties whom the Magistrate found insufficient and was denied bail.
For now, Wodero will remain in custody in Luzira prison until July 3rd 2024 when the case will next be heard.
