Kampala: The body of a girl, said to be around 12 years, who is suspected to have been gang raped before being murdered, has been recovered in Naalya, a Kampala suburb.
The body of the yet to be identified girl was found lying in a trench in Naalya, near Bethany High School, along the Northern Bypass. Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire, said that “The body of the girl suspected to be aged between 10 and 12 was found dumped at the Northern Bypass near Bethany High in Naalya.” He added that “Kira Road police was notified by passers-by and the crime scene was visited.”
Eyewitnesses reveal that the girl’s body had no knickers, she was lying face down, with her skirt lifted up to the waist. The police are investigating circumstances under which the girl’s body got in the trench, identify who she is and notify her parents. The hunt for the ruthless goons who are suspected to have raped and later murdered the girl is also on.
Police said the victim had any identification documents on her, which made it difficult to locate her relatives. Owoyesigyire added that there were signs of struggle an indication that she could have been abducted from a different place, killed and dumped at the Northern Bypass. The police later remove the corpse and took it to Mulago hospital mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue. Owoyesigyire said homicide detectives from Kira Division have been assigned to trace for the possible killers. He also urged any parents within Kampala who have a missing daughter to contact police and check if the deceased is their kin.
