Ssembabule: Shock has gripped people of Ssembabule district after a family being poisoned, which caused the death of one person and left 5 other members of the same family hospitalized.
The deceased has been identified as Sharifa Lukyamuzi, aged 4, daughter of Abdul Lukyamuzi, a resident of Nankondo Village in Lwebitakuli Sub County in Sembabule district. The other family members who are hospitalized at Bamu Health center include Sheima Lukyamuzi, Abudul Lukyamuzi, Nayiga Sharuwa, all below ten years of age, plus their father Lukyamuzi and mother Sharifa Nakazzi. Lukyamuzi told police that “I and my family members started feeling headache and dizzy after eating supper but didn’t take it seriously. But the situation worsened in the night, which forced us to seek help from a clinic where we were told that we had eaten poisoned food.”
Police reveals that Lukyamuzi’s family members are suspected to have eaten food laced with poison on Sunday night at their home in Nankondo village. Lukyamuzi’s wife Nakazzi, said that “We decided to run to the clinic when the children started complaining of stomach pains and vomiting. They later developed running stomachs. Sadly, my daughter Shariffa was pronounced dead on arrival at the Clinic.” Paul Kangave, the Southern Region Police Spokesperson, says the police took a sample of the food the suspects ate for testing. He advised people to avoid leaving food that they are cooking unattended to.
