President Salva Kiir of South Sudan has undertaken a series of dismissals and appointments across various government sectors, prompted by public concerns over deteriorating conditions and operational inefficiencies.

South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA):

The catalyst for changes in the aviation sector was a viral video depicting goats wandering on the runway at Juba International Airport, disrupting an Ethiopian Airlines plane as it taxied to the parking area.

In response, President Kiir relieved Captain David Subek Dada from his position as Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the SSCAA, appointing John Woja Elinana as his successor.

Additionally, the SSCAA Board of Directors was dissolved and reconstituted. The new board is chaired by Addis Ababa Otho and includes:

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport

  • The Head of the SSCAA Legal Team
  • The Commander of the Air Force
  • A representative from the National Security Service’s Internal Security Bureau
  • Maria Lotua, representing Business Management
  • John Woja Elinana, serving as Secretary in his capacity as Director General/CEO of the SSCAA

Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA):

Gola Boyoi Gola was removed from his role as Chief Administrator of the GPAA and replaced by Peter Guzulo Maze.

Ministry of Petroleum:

Eng. Kon John Akot, Director General of the Petroleum Exploration and Production Authority, was relieved of his duties, with Eng. Lual Chol Dak appointed as his replacement.

Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs:

Dr. Gabriel Isaac Awow was removed as Undersecretary and succeeded by Hon. Mary James Ajith Awol.

Ministry of Culture, Museums, and National Heritage:

Amer Madol Majak was relieved from the position of Undersecretary and replaced by Malok Majak.

These changes reflect President Kiir’s exercise of constitutional authority to address public concerns and enhance the efficiency of government operations.
