Bunyangabu: Bunyangabu County Member of Parliament, Hon. Davis Kamukama, is no stranger to controversy. Over the years, his name has surfaced in countless scandals that have left many questioning his integrity and suitability for public office. Yet again,  he’s now embroiled in a bitter child custody battle with his ex-wife, Christine Kasande,. The MP finds himself once again under the public spotlight for all the wrong reasons, let’s list them down…..

The latest drama revolves around the custody and maintenance of their two-and-a-half-year-old son (names withheld). Kasande has petitioned the Family and Children’s Court Division in Nakawa, seeking joint custody and a monthly fee for child maintenance. She argues that the child, who she says is ready for school, has been neglected by the Honourable MP despite his financial capacity.

Kamukama, however, dismisses her claims. According to him, he provides Shs 300,000 monthly for upkeep and has also been paying for medical insurance for the child at AAR.

Regarding school fees, he argues that the child is still too young to start school, accusing Kasande of using the custody case as a ploy to extract money for her personal benefit.

The case, brought under Article 31 & 34 of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the Children (Amendment) Act 2016, highlights Christine’s plea for access to her son, whom she claims has been denied to her for over eight months. She argues that as a biological parent, she has an equal right to be involved in the child’s upbringing and well-being.

Key Allegations Against Kamukama Davis

Intercepted message

In her application, Christine alleges that Kamukama Davis has:

1. Arrogantly and willfully refused to provide any form of assistance to their child after their relationship ended.

2. Failed to visit, support, or care for the child, showing irresponsibility as a father.

3. Violated the child’s fundamental rights, including the right to know and be cared for by both parents.

Christine further argues that the child has suffered due to a lack of fatherly love, care, and support. She emphasizes that granting her custody will help improve the child’s physical, mental, and psychological state.

The application underscores the principle that both parents share equal responsibility in raising their child. Christine argues that her parental rights should not be subordinate to those of the Respondent, as the child’s welfare is best protected when both parents are actively involved.

Christine is seeking a court order granting her joint custody and maintenance, along with the costs of the application. She argues that it is in the best interest of the child for her to be granted parental access, as the child’s welfare should be of paramount importance.

This case raises broader questions about parental responsibility, child welfare, and the obligations of public figures, especially elected leaders, to their families. The outcome could set a precedent for similar custody battles involving influential individuals.

As the case proceeds in the Nakawa Family and Children’s Court, all eyes will be on the ruling, which will determine whether the court acknowledges Christine’s plea for justice and parental rights.

A History of Scandals

This is not the first time Kamukama has found himself entangled in controversy. His past is riddled with accusations and incidents that paint a troubling picture.

  1. The Car Theft Allegations:
Kamukama has been accused of taking two vehicles under suspicious circumstances. In one case, he reportedly took a BMW belonging to his ex-girlfriend only known as Abigail from their apartment in Kisaasi, claiming he needed to rush to Bukoto to pick his money from a friend, who had been him games for yrs,but now that he had called him, he needed to dash there like a rocket 🚀, and the BWM was the in thing for such, to which the girl friend obliged. Abigail was however left speechless when she kept on calling the entire night to no avail, only to be told 2 days later by another friend that her was sighted in Kyenjojo Town with a burst engine, and that it was in a garage! Apparently when Davis picked after several attempts, he told her he was enroute to his constituency in Bunyangabu, but quickly added that he would repair the car. The last time I checked, it’s now coming to a year and the matter has never never been resolved. It has always been ping pong.
  2. In another incident, he allegedly took a vehicle belonging to a friend, promising to return it shortly, only for it to vanish for an extended period. The vehicle was later traced and impounded by police. When the occupant was arrested,he pleaded that he bought the car from Hon.Davis Kamukama. However, Kamukama has told his friend that the car was stolen from the parking where he had parked it. This matter is still at Wandegeya police, and has never been resolved., atleast the last time I checked.
  3. Unpaid Debts:
Kamukama’s financial integrity has also been called into question. Few years ago, he allegedly filled up his tank at a petrol station owned by a fellow MP, promising to pay within hours via mobile money. To this day, the payment remains pending, leaving his colleague stunned by the blatant disregard for trust.
  4. Time in Luzira Prison:
The MP’s troubles have also led him to Luzira Prison. Sources confirmed that Kamukama spent time behind bars over unresolved debt related scandals.

A Pattern of Misconduct?

While Kamukama maintains his innocence in many of these allegations, the growing list of scandals cannot be ignored. From personal disputes to professional misconduct, his name has become synonymous with controversy.

The Big Question for 2026

As Bunyangabu heads toward the next general elections in 2026, voters must ask themselves a critical question: Does Davis Kamukama deserve another term in office? Should they continue to place their trust in a man whose past has been marred by scandals, or is it time for new leadership that prioritizes accountability and integrity?

The choice lies in the hands of the electorate, but the legacy of their decision will shape the future of Bunyangabu County.
