Kanungu – In a significant crackdown on corruption within the Parish Development Model (PDM) program, Kamugisha William, the Secretary of Central Ward, Kambuga PDM SACCO, has been convicted and sentenced for obtaining money by false pretence.

Kamugisha was arraigned before the Kanungu Magistrates Court yesterday, following a joint investigation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Authorities revealed that the accused had been soliciting money from hundreds of PDM beneficiaries, falsely claiming that payment was a requirement to access government funds. The fraudulent scheme deceived many unsuspecting individuals, undermining the credibility of the PDM initiative, which aims to uplift households out of poverty.

During the court proceedings, Kamugisha pleaded guilty to the charges. The magistrate sentenced him to either one year of imprisonment or a mandatory refund of the money he extorted from the victims.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in government programs, warning that officials who engage in corruption will face the full force of the law.

This conviction sends a strong message to public officials entrusted with implementing development programs, emphasizing that misuse of public trust will not be tolerated. Authorities continue to urge the public to report cases of corruption to safeguard government initiatives intended for national development.
