Mbarara: Residents in Nombe village, Kashare parish, Rubindi sub-county, Mbarara district, are in a shock after a woman said to have a mental problem killed seven member of her family before fleeing.
It is alleged that Lydia Kyomuhangi, aged 65,  developed a mental problem some time back  although since then she had been living with her family. However, on Sunday evening, she her grandchildren from their parents, enticed them with them with soda and biscuits before taking them to her home.  She gathered them in a kitchen and served them the soda and biscuits. After that  she went to the house with a panga and hacked her husband identified as George Hangamisho, injuring him with severally.
After that she went to the next bedroom in which her daughter identified as Annet Kyomukama, also mad, was tied. She chopped her to death too. As if that was not enough, Kyomuhangi went on to the kitchen where she had left children enjoying soda and biscuits and hacked  all six to death before  disappearing. The deceased were identified as Osbert Nuwamanya, 8 years, Oscar Tarimweba, 5 years, Mercy Owomugisha, 6 months, Claire Ankunda, 5 years, Adela Orishaba, 9 months and Apophia Kanshabe, 10 years. The bodies of the deceased were later taken to Mbarara regional referral Hospital for postmortem by police. However, Mzee Hangamisho was also taken to the same hospital for treatment in critical condition. Mbarara police are doing whatever is possible to hunt down Kyomuhangi  and arrest her for the heinous crimes before she kills other people.
