Mountains of the Moon University has today held its 16th graduation ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s ongoing commitment to producing skilled and innovative graduates. This year, 795 students from a variety of programs walked across the stage, ready to contribute to Uganda’s growth and development. The ceremony was graced by a host of political, cultural, and religious leaders, adding to the celebratory atmosphere of the event.

The guest of honor, represented by Hon. Margret Muhanga, the State Minister of Health, shared an empowering message for the graduates. Speaking on behalf of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Hon. Muhanga highlighted the importance of equipping students with the skills needed by the private sector to meet the demands of the rapidly changing global economy. She emphasized that as the government attracts more investments, the need for skilled, productive workers would only increase.

“The students must be prepared to respond to the rapidly changing global economy, which is mainly driven by science and technology,” she said.

The Minister also urged the graduates to embrace personal responsibility, advising them to avoid destructive lifestyles like excessive drinking, reckless spending, and other behaviors that could hinder their success. Quoting the Bible verse Luke 12:48, she reminded the graduates that “to whom much is given, much is required,” urging them to use their education to positively impact Uganda and their communities.

The ceremony, which was held under the theme “Technological Advancements for Enhancing Higher Education in Agriculture, Tourism, and the Environment,” celebrated the integration of technology into various fields of study. The university continues to emphasize the importance of technological innovations to drive future progress in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and environmental conservation.

In addition to the inspiring speeches, Colonel Nabimanya Saul emerged as the best-performing student at the university, receiving recognition for his outstanding academic achievement. With a remarkable Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.84 in Bachelor of Public Administration, Colonel Nabimanya’s success was a highlight of the day.

The second-best performing student, Tumusiime Wilson, achieved a CGPA of 4.76 in Bachelor of Business Administration, while Hafusa Amuru was recognized as the best-performing female student, securing a CGPA of 4.75 in Bachelor of Banking and Development Finance.

As Uganda moves forward, Mountains of the Moon University says is focusing on integrating technological advancements into its curriculum, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

During the event, the Chancellor of the university, Professor Edward Rugumayo, also renewed the call for the government to address the poor road conditions leading to the university. He specifically mentioned the Kabundaire to university road, which becomes difficult to navigate during the rainy season.

In response to the above, Hon. Muhanga assured that the request would be forwarded to President Museveni and that the Ministry of Works would be engaged to ensure the road’s completion.
