Court Of Appeal Kicks Rukungiri Nrm Woman MP Out Of Parliament,Orders For Fresh Election!

Nrm candidate Winnie Matsiko has lost her seat as woman member of parliament for Rukingiri district after The Court of Appeal ordered for a by election on Thursday morning!

The Panel of judges led by Deputy chief Justice Owiny Dollo and Paul Mugambe cancelled Hon.Winnie Matsiko’s election on the basis of ‘a lot of irregularities’.

Betty Muzanira who stood on Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party card and lost challenged her rival Winfred Masiko’s win in the court of Appeal,the highest court for electoral petitions. .

Muzanira sought a vote re-count or an order for fresh elections, alleging that there were gross illegalities committed during the exercise and that Ms Masiko was not validly elected.

On February 29, 2016, Rukungiri Chief Magistrates Court dismissed with costs an application by Betty Muzanira to have votes for Rukungiri Woman MP seat re-counted. Muzanira had petitioned the court accusing the EC of committing errors during the announcement of the results and in the results declaration forms.

She contested the lower court’s ruling in the High Court which agreed with her today.

The judges have ordered the electoral commission to prepare for fresh elections.
