President Yoweri Museveni is unhappy with the Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation (UBC) radio known as Totore in Singila village, Moroto district which is operating in a ramshackle container.
One of the workers of the same station identified as Jones Othieno alias aka DJ Jones, told the President on Wednesday night that the Station, which serves Karamoja sub-region, only operates twice a month. This shocking revelation was made while the President was at Morulinga State Lodge in Moroto district. Othieno said that “On many occasions, government officials who want to sensitize the public about government programmes use other private radio stations in the area to communicate to the public in time.”
When President Museveni was told that he laughed at the Station’s deplorable condition and pledged to follow up the matter. He also added that a radio station is supposed to operate daily not seasonally. He promised to follow the matter until the Station’s predicament is sorted out. The Radio station was commissioned by the President in March 2015 and operates in a small shack in an open compound, which is littered with cow dung. Additionally, all the radio equipment including the transmitter is in the same shack and it mainly operates when there is electricity, because it doesn’t have a generator.
