Kampala: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson is breathing behind coolers after being arrested over allegations of  forgery and uttering false documents.
Reliable sources at the district reveal that Emmanuel Karasi, the Chairperson of PAC Bushenyi district, allegedly forged academic papers that enabled him get appointed as Speaker for Bushenyi Municipality and later chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee. Karasi, who has been missing in office for close to two months was arrested on Friday in Bushenyi Municipality and briefly detained at Bushenyi Central Police station, before being transferred to Kampala.
Sources at the district indicate that Karasi is facing charges of uttering false documents and forgery and will be arraigned in court to face the said charges when investigations into the matter are completed. He abandoned office about two months ago after disagreements with the Chief Administrative Officer Elias Byamungu. It was after their bitter disagreement that Byamungu instituted a committee to investigate Karasi after receiving information from a whistleblower that his academic papers were lacking authenticity. However, Karasi disappeared days after the committee started its work and by the time they delivered their report to Byamyngu Karasi was nowhere to be seen. A hunt for him was launched until he was arrested on Friday. However, Eddie Serugyongi the Greater Bushenyi regional police commander who is very privy to the matter,  declined to reveal details surrounding the arrest, noting that it would jeopardize investigations.
