Kasese: The police in Kasese district are hunting for a gang of goons who attacked  two Ebola Screening Units,  clobbered medical personnel, razed down the facility, before burning medical equipment and tents and then took to their heels!
The incident happened on Wednesday at Kisolholho village in Maliba-Abiri sub-county and Masango villages, Kasese District, which are major entry points from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Sylvester Baghene, a member of Ten Village Health Team working at Maliba-Abiri said that earlier, a 19-year old boy from Democratic Republic of Congo was screened with high temperature and immediately rushed to Bwera Hospital after being suspected of having contracted Ebola. However, his relatives reacted angrily, attacking medical teams at the screening points for wrong diagnosis. Baghene suspects that the group of Congolese  could have masterminded the destruction of the centers.
Isaac Bwambale, a member of Uganda Red Cross Society, explained that the relatives of the suspected case from the DR Congo hurled insults at the medical teams in protest of the referral and demanded to be given the boy, something the medics declined to do.
Kasese Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Joshua Masereka told our reporter that the matter is being investigated.   At least three people have died ever since an Ebola Outbreak was declared in Kasese District on June 11, 2019, by the Ministry of Health. Several other suspected cases  that were quarantined are being monitored. However, the ministry of health is yet to issue a statement about this brutal attack on their facilities and medics in Kasese.
