Kampala:Ugandan Musician Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleone denied allegations of supporting the ruling party National Resistance Movement (NRM), saying he was only after money and making his life better.
“I have never been in NRM, I would like to make it clear to everybody that I am a service deliverer and I have been a musician for all these years looking for money,” he said.
It’s on record that in the 2016 presidential campaigns, Chameleone led other musicians who were campaigning for president Museveni in the ‘Tubonga Naawe’ musical campaign. However, while speaking to journalists at Nsambya Sharing Hall on Wednesday, shortly after being unveiled by DP, chameleon vehemently denied being a member of NRM party.
Chameleone also told the nation that he is a musician who has sung many songs to different categories of people and on different platforms, as a singer who was looking for money not as a member affiliated to any political party.
“People want to link me to NRM but my background right away from my grandparents, even my own father, brothers we are all DP members, “he said.
He added that there wasn’t any need of waving goodbye to NRM cadres and there is no need to consult them in any way because he has never been part of them.
“I went to NRM purposely to make money like the way I sing in different places like Lugogo, Masaka and other places so I don’t know why people are pushing me to NRM. I have never been in NRM. I am a DP member and I will always remain DP right from birth,” he said.
A few months ago Chameleone declared his intention to contest for the Kampala Lord Mayor seat, currently occupied by Erias Lukwago.
