Kampala: City musician Michael Alinda aka Ziggy Wine, who was member of Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s People Power group, has died at Mulago hospital, after being abducted and tortured by armed men.
On Saturday August 3th,2019, SpyUganda reported about how Ziggy Wine had been abducted a few days back and while in detention he was severely tortured, until one of his eyes was plucked out. Some of his fingers had been chopped off and he had signs of being burnt with a flat iron.
By the time SpyUganda reported about Zigy Wine’s torture he was bedridden in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
However, this morning, SpyUganda has received the unfortunate demise of Ziggy Wine.
Family sources reveal that the singer passed away in the wee hours of Monday morning after many of his internal organs failing. But by the time we filed this report, the police had not visited Ziggy Wine ever since he was dumped at Mulago hospital on Friday night by his abductors, who reportedly later called his family members to go check on him.
While commenting about Zigy Wine’s abduction on Sunday, Bobi Wine had written thus on social media;
“My close friend and fellow artist (Ziggy Wine) was kidnapped a couple of weeks back, beaten beyond recognition, his left eye plucked out, two of his fingers cut off, all his belongings taken and dumped in Mulago Hospital and left for dead. Zigy is in such a bad state that he lost nearly all his senses and now survives on God’s mercy. This is one of the very many saddening stories across the country sanctioned by the very people whose duty is to protect us. As we do our best to save a life in a very critical state, kindly keep our brother in your prayers.”
On Monday morning Bobi Wine tweeted thus;
“Our friend Ziggy Wine could not make it. He passed on last night- succumbing to injuries sustained after a horrendous encounter with kidnap & torture. Very painful! He joins other countless Ugandans. As we mourn him, we resolve to work even harder to end this. Rest well brother.”
However, Zigy Wine’s gruesome death has sent waves of fear among many People Power members and MP Medard Segona, the legal adviser of the Pressure Group, revealed that they are going to conduct a private investigations into their member’s shocking demise.
