Luwero: Shock and horror engulfed residents of Ntangaala village, in Luweero district on Tuesday, after the police recovered a corpse of a year-old baby, who is believed to have been sacrificed.
The yet to be identified boy, who is suspected to have been killed in a ritual sacrifice, in the compound of Rose Nakanjako Sserumaga, a resident of Ntangaala village in Katikamu Sub County, in Luweero district, where locals who first saw it quickly informed the police.
Nakanjako said “The minor’s naked body was first seen by my grandson who was sweeping the compound in the morning. He immediately alerted me and I later the LC 1 Chairman.”
“My grandson first saw a dog eating something and when he went closer he realised it was a body of a human being.” She added, noting that some body parts including the private parts, hands and legs among others were missing.
The area LC 1 Chairperson Samuel Kakooza said the minor’s neck was slit and some body parts had been taken, something that points to a ritual sacrifice.
However, s he said they hadn’t received reports of a missing child from their village or nearby areas yet.
Police detectives led by Luweero District Police Commander, Ahmed Musakana rushed to the scene with a sniffer dog, which led them to the home of one of the residents, who was arrested to help police with investigations into the gruesome murder.
Acts of kidnapping and murdering babies in Uganda, especially in Luweero district, have increased in recent years and several have fallen victims, among them Pretty Susan Nakanjako, a nursery pupil at Gembe Primary School in Katikamu Sub-county, who was in March this year kidnapped and strangled to death. Later, an irate mob retaliated by lynching the Imam of Gembe Mosque in Luweero district, whom they suspected of having been behind the kidnap and murder the 6-year-old girl. Christine Namale Birungi a primary four pupil of Blessed Future Primary School at Ngabo village in Luweero, was also found dead and her body dumped in a thicket. However, The police are yet to bring any culprits to book as these horrible acts continue to happen.
