Horror As Deputy Chief Justice’s Convoy Knocks Cyclist Dead

Gulu: Residents in Gulu town were on Monday evening gripped with horror after the Deputy Chief Justice’s speeding motorcade knocked a cyclist dead.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson revealed that Gulu police impounded a vehicle belonging to the convoy of the Deputy Chief Justice, Alphonse Chigamoi Owiny-Dollo, after it was involved in a road accident, which left a cyclist dead.

Okema said that “Vehicle registration number UG 064J was impounded after knocking dead a cyclist identified as Saley Webukhuru.”

He added that “The vehicle was being driven by Julius Komakech who was on his way to Kampala.”
Okema also said that Komakech lost control of the vehicle while trying to dodge a Sahara Pickup registration UAD 874N at Layibi, Layibi Division which was being driven by Isaac Wawiyala, a businessman in Gulu town who made an unexpected turn along Gulu-Kampala highway.

However, eyewitnesses blamed the Pickup driver for causing the accident.

The police which later reached the scene shortly after the tragedy took the body to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital pending postmortem as investigations continue.
