The Amolatar District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Godfrey Ogwang is in cells over failure to clear Shillings 43 million in court debts.
Ogwang was arrested on Tuesday, Sept 3 from Zengebe landing site in Nakasongola by a team of court bailiffs from Amani Trust Bailiffs and Auctioneers as he was traveling to Kampala for official duties.
They drove him to Masindi Central Police Station in Masindi town where he is expected to appear in court today September 4.
David Opentho, the Operation commander from Amani Trust Bailiffs and Auctioneers said, Ogwang’s arrested was sanctioned by Masindi High Court.
Trouble for Ogwang stems from a civil suit filed by Ssansa Nalubega in 2012, the then Town Clerk of Bweyale Township in Kiryandongo district challenging her interdiction by the debtor for allegedly absconding from duty during his tenure as Kiryandongo Chief Administrative Officer of Kiryandongo.
She won the suit and was awarded Shillings 43M for wrongful interdiction. However, Ogwang didn’t pay the money, which prompted Nalubega to secure an arrest warrant. This is the second time Ogwang is being arrested over the same debt.
In May, 2018, Ogwang was arrested in Masindi town by police and court bailiffs on the orders of the then Masindi High Court deputy Registrar, Simon Kintu Zirintusa.
