Sheema: Jacklet Atuhaire Rwabukurukuru, the Sheema district Woman Member of Parliament, has urged youth to always spend their leisure time constructively rather than copying western behaviours which are destructive.
Atuhaire made these remarks a few days ago while being interviewed by our reporter about the District Football cup tournament which she said will start in December and will be played across districts in western Uganda.
Atuhaire said that “The purpose of this tournament is to keep our youths’ brains busy and thinking constructively. Sports makes someone physically fit and mentally positive. These days diseases are many and most of our children end up falling into traps due to boredom, because an idle mind is a devil’s habitat.”
She added that “It has been found that most youth involve themselves in bad acts especially sexual activities during evening hours because in the evening they have nothing to do. But if we put up this tournament , they won’t get time to think about those funny acts.” Atuhaire said.
She also blamed parents for being the root cause of their children’s rotten behaviours.
“You find a parent in the morning hours sitting TV watching Nigerian movies on TV. Some watch love movies with their children which tempts them into practicing what they watch of TV. Instead of teaching your children domestic activities like peeling, digging or anything else, you’re just there watching films. Yes it’s good to watch movies but it depends on which type of movie and at what type of lessons you get from there,” Atuhaire noted.
As a sign of promoting sports in the whole district, Hon Naome Kibaaju MP, of Sheema North, has already started her tournament in her constituency whereby the first round started on 9th September and ending on 16th September , while second round will end on 27th September this year for both men and women.
