Kasese: The offices of Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere in Kasese town have turned into a habitat for rats, spiders, mosquitoes, cockroaches and other pests, after lying idle for years and becoming bushy all over.
Ever since Mumbere was ejected from his throne after an onslaught by armed forces against his kingdom in November 2016, the offices have never been opened.
All Mumbere’s subjects who were Manning the offices were either arrested or fled for their dear lives and since then, rats and other pests have since taken control of the buildings.
Violence erupted on 26 November 2016 in Rwenzururu kingdom, in the heart of Kasese town, when the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces led by Maj. Gen. Peter Elwelu raided Mumbere’s offices, killed eight Rwenzururian royal guards and arrested two others.
They also attacked the palace, arrested Omusinga Mumbere with many of his royal chiefs and guards, who are still languishing in jails across the country.
Meanwhile, Omusinga Mumbere, who had been arrested over murder and treason cases, was later granted bail by Jinja High Court.
He was thereafter put under house arrest at his town palace in Kampala, and banned from ever stepping foot in his kingdom again. He cannot even fly out of the country until his cases at Jinja High Court are done with.
According to the government of Uganda, the raid was in response to militant attacks on police posts in the region two weeks earlier, allegedly perpetrated by the royal guards
