Sheema: A few days after Sheema District Speaker Nicholas Kwarija vowed to to drag Sheema district LC V Chairman David Kabigumira to the disciplinary committee over office misuse, his office vehicle Registration number UG 3233R was last week found without a battery.
This vehicle developed mechanical problems three to five months ago and got stuck outside a betting company for a month, something that raised concerns from the District leadership.
Later it was taken to Sheema District headquarters where it has spent almost two months packed. However Spy reveals that unknown people stormed the District headquarters recently and went away with its battery.
A letter seen by Spy Uganda written by Sheema district assistant mechanical engineer Amon Kato to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Sheema District Moses Kanyarutookye indicates that “It was yesterday evening when the Chairperson’s driver reported the loss of battery for the above mentioned vehicle. On checking, it was realized that one of the terminals was cut which acted as a confirmatory test for its being stolen. The issue of this letter is to inform your office of the loss a battery for the said vehicle.”
Frank Kyerere the Sheema Resident District Commissioner (RDC) told us that “We must get this thief because I asked the driver of the said vehicle and he told me that the vehicle’s doors weren’t broken, and that even the car bonnet was not broken , which means the person who stole this battery must be having the keys of the vehicle. I asked the driver and he told me that some keys are at police and he doesn’t know where the other are. We shall investigate and get to them.” he said.
Kanyarutookye added that “It’s true the battery was stolen, I have already reported to the police and investigations are going on.”
However, the Sheema DPC SP Scovia Birungi said that “I’m hearing it for the first time. I don’t know that case at our police station. If he says that he reported the case to police , ask him for the reference number of the case.
