Kampala: The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) have gazetted the red beret as part of their military attire and vowed to arrest all People Power supporters found wearing it.
The red beret was introduced last year by Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, as symbol for his People Power pressure group.
It has since then been worn by opposition MPs and all People Power supporters, although it was banned from being worn in Parliament.
However, during a meeting between security forces and Crime Preventers last week, the UPDF senior command ordered Crime Preventers to arrest all People Power supporters wearing red berets.
As a way of making the order effective, the UPDF has Monday September 29, 2019 published in the Uganda Gazette pictures of berets, pips and caps which are exclusively meant to be worn by army officers.
This means that Bobi Wine and all his People Power supporters will face arrest any moment if found wearing red berets.
