Suspect Shot During School-Evasion Robbery, Arrested

Kalungu: Police in Kalungu District is investigating circumstances where Paul Kayongo a resident of Kyamusooke Village in Kalungu Rural Sub County was shot by police when he and others still at large reportedly tried to gain entry into the girl’s dormitory of St Joseph Secondary School in the wee hours of Wednesday, October 2, 2019 morning.

According to primary reports, a group stormed the school, turned off lights and ordered students to open the dormitory. Worried students made an alarm that drew the matron’s attention prompting her to call the police, which responded urgently.

John Muwanga the head teacher of the said school said, the attackers disguised themselves as teachers calling students for morning preps. However students got suspicious since it was 2am, which was too early for preps and raised alarm.

He added that some of the attackers managed to get away but Kayongo was shot in the leg and police managed to arrest him.

Paul Kangave, the Southern Region Police mouthpiece said, Kayongo will help police investigations into the attack.

He added that police have launched a manhunt for Kayongo’s gang. Kangave said that police is holding Kayongo at Villa Maria hospital in Kalungu where he is hospitalized as investigations are ongoing.
