4 UPDF Soldiers Perish In Accident After Driver Rams Into Building

The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) has Monday morning confirmed the death of their four soldiers who were involved in a motor accident in Kaboong district.

According to eyewitnesses, the four died when the driver of a UPDF pickup truck they were traveling number DO3DF108 lost control and rammed into a building.

The accident occurred after the driver swerved off the road he avoided knocking goats that were crossing.

In the process, the vehicle rammed into a beer depot, killing four soldiers on spot and injuring three other people who were around the deport.

The injured soldiers together with an old man were rushed to Kaabong Hospital to receive medical treatment.

The soldiers who were attached to  Kaabong Brigade were on a mission to arrest one of their fellow own Private Jimmy Masaaba, who is wanted for shooting Joseph Nyerere, a foreman at a Chinese Construction Camp, following a disagreement.

The 3rd Division Spokesman Maj. Telesphor Turyamumanya, confirmed the accident, and said it occurred at around 7.00 am.

“Four soldiers have died and three others are injured. They were going to arrest their colleague who had shot a guard at a Chinese Construction Camp. It’s unfortunate that it happened,” he said.
