Kasese: Two primary seven pupils died in abrupt landslides that hit Kyambarwa village on Monday night, in Mahango sub-county, Kasese district.
Winnie Biira, aged 15 years and Patience Kabugho, aged 13 years, died instantly after a rock hit their parents’ house as the family slept.
The two were primary seven candidates at Nyamisule primary school, which is located in Kyambarwa village, Mahango sub-county in Kasese district and were ready to sit for their exams.
Their close neigbour Nyamutidi Baluku said that; “It was not easy to save the children because they were trapped in the rubble.”
The Sub County chairperson Eric Maathe Muhasa said “The girls were asleep when one side of their bedroom walls collapsed, due to pressure exerted by the heaps of mud following a heavy downpour that lasted for over five hours.
He added that “The two other family members including their mother Misulence Bakalhania, survived narrowly because they were sleeping in another room.”
The landslides also destroyed houses, crops, household items and killed livestock.
However, parts of Kasese district have been experiencing floods and landslide since 2011.

Masereka said he would educate the community about building their houses in safe areas
