Mbarara : Rubindi police in Mbarara district are holding a 32-year-old man for allegedly refusing to take his two children for immunisation.
Crescent Aryahebwa, a resident of Nkarweshanga in Rubindi Sub-County, Mbarara district, was Sunday arrested by police for refusing to allow his two children below 15 years be immunised something that is against the laws of Uganda about immunisation.
Turyahabwe Mugisha, Officer in Charge( OC) Rubindi police post said that “Aryaheebwa told police that his religion doesn’t allow them to immunise their children. He told us that he his religion prohibits immunisation and that he was told that the immunisation vaccines were got from monkeys and pigs, the animals he hates most on earth.”
“He also told us that he couldn’t allow his children to be immunised because he thought that they were to be poisoned.”p
Aryaheebwa is now being held at Rubindi police post waiting to be taken to court where he will charged with disobeying the constitution.
In related news, the District Health Officer Sheema district Atwongyeire Dickens asked local politicians to avoid mixing immunisation with politics, he added that this immunisation exercise a nation’s program and it doesn’t favour any political party but all Ugandans at large.
According to ministry of health, immunisation exercise against polio Rubella and measles started on 16th October 2019 and all children below 15 years were supposed to be immunised.
