By Gad Masereka

Police in greater Masaka together and Lyantonde District have started hunting for an errant Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) deserter who allegedly shot dead three family members  before fleeing into hiding.

Francis Rwabagabo, together with his wife Kellen Nakato,  were on Sunday night shot dead inside their home in Kaliiro sub-county at  9:00Pm. After a few minutes the gunman also  shot Leokadia Kizza, who was Rwabagabo’s in-law, whom he found at his home in  Kaliiro III Village just few meters from the that of the first victims.

Residents and police at the scene

Close relatives of the late revealed to TheSpy Uganda that they  suspect the late Rwabagabo’s son a one Mwebaze, who is a UPDF deserter to be the one responsible for the attacks and gruesome murders.

John Zziwa, the speaker Kaliiro Sub-County, said that “Mwebaze has been having misunderstandings with his stepmother (Nakato), accusing her of having bewitched his mother who died recently. And when he [Mwebaze] raided the home, he shot Nakato and when the father emerged from the bedroom to see what had happened, he was also shot. A few hours after the shooting, Mwebaze, who occasionally visited the village, was spotted at a mobile money shop belonging to Godfrey Kawooya in the  trading centre and after like four hours , we also received information that Kizza, had been gunned down”.

The three bodies were later taken to Lyantonde Hospital Mortuary  for postmortem as police continues with investigations in the matter.

The Police spokesperson for Southern Region Paul Kangave confirmed the incident and added that police has started investigating the matter.

He added that “Our teams are already at the scenes and have recovered 11 cartridges; eight of them from Rwabagabo’s house. They are still gathering more information from residents. I am sure we are going to get to the bottom of this.”

The residents requested police get on ground and work on criminals like  Mwebaze   who has become  a security threat to the society.

Our sources  also established that Mwebaze is also wanted by police after he was linked to the murder of three family members in the neighbouring Kinuuka Sub-County, Lyantonde District last month.
