Namungoona: A Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) officer at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel perished in a horrible accident that occurred in Namungoona town, a Kampala suburb, on Monday October 21, 2019 night.

Kampala Police Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire confirmed the tragic incident and said the police are investigating circumstances could have led to the accident.

According to eyewitnesses, Lt. Col. Abdu Kawawa, was knocked dead by an unidentified commuter taxi, whose number plate is yet to identified by police.

He added that Lt. Col. Kawawa was knocked under mysterious circumstances as he walked along the road at around 8:00 Pm night.
“We have tried to record statements from different eyewitnesses which will guide us to arrest this tax driver who caused this accident,” Owoyesigire said.

However, this is not the first mysterious hit and run accident in Kampala that has baffled the police.

A few months ago a Toyota Kruger number UAY 582V knocked dead Brian Tukahirwa who was a UPDF Air Force soldier in Eastern Uganda Soroti district.

In August this year while in Kamwokya, a renowned Firebase crew and People Power supporter Abubaker Mugisha was knocked by an unknown taxi driver who fled after leaving the victims with injuries and damages to their car.

In 2018 ASP Francis Kato who was O/C Kyebando police Post, was knocked dead by still unidentified men who were driving in a taxi along the Northern Bypass.
