Untold grief engulfed pupils of Bukari Primary School in Bukibokolo Sub-County, Bududa district on Monday, after one of the candidates collapsed and died in the examination room as pupils started their Primary Leaving Examinations.

The pupil identified as Winnie Kakayi, 14, was among the 21 pupils registered to sit Primary Leaving Examination in the school, although  it is not yet clear what triggered her collapsing and eventual death.

David Kitutu, the school head teacher said that “The deceased’s parents had informed me earlier that the child was suffering from malaria but had not been treated as parents sought divine intervention for her recovery.”
Kitutu added that  “Kakayi collapsed as soon as she started the mathematics paper, but we don’t know what made her collapse.”

John Wandera, the father of the deceased, said he asked her to stay home since she was sick but the girl insisted that she could not miss an examination she had been preparing for all these years. Samson Natsambwa, the Bududa district Chief Administrative Officer, said the incident is regrettable.
