The Uganda Cranes delegation for the North-Eastern regional tour in Katakwi has set off from Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) House in Mengo, Kampala, on Friday morning.
The delegation includes 16 players and seven officials including the head coach Jonathan McKinstry, first assistant head coach Abdullah Mubiru, goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba, among others.
The team had a successful session on Thursday at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo, where they were also joined by a couple of international players.
According to FUFA, the tour is in line with preparations for the upcoming Uganda Cranes participation in the AFCON 2021 qualifiers with Burkina Faso (Away) on November 13, 2019 and against Malawi on November 17, 2019 (At Home).
The tours, which will cover other parts of the country, are aimed at taking the Uganda Cranes brand to the masses all over Uganda.
McKinstry has already lauded the regional tours project, saluting the Federation for the initiative as an element of preparing the players especially those who play in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League for the national team duties.
“This is a unique project (Regional Tours) and I have not seen it anywhere in Africa. We are set for the North-East region when we play in Katakwi on Saturday,” McKinstry said.
“These are early preparations for the two AFCON 2021 qualifiers away to Burkina Faso and at home against Malawi’ McKinstry attested.
