Bugiri: Police in Bugiri district have started investigating circumstances under which four workers at Bugiri hospital were arrested over allegations of being connected to the theft of government surgical beds.
The arrested medics include Dr Anthony Mumasyuwa, Mutealibu Kigobero, Polach Jonathan, and the security guard who was on duty the night they stole the surgical beds.
One of the nurses identified as Joyce Mutibwa told Spy Uganda that “The four suspects we arrested in connection to the theft of the surgical beds from Bugiri hospital.”
 According to the hospital management the beds worth Shs18m were stolen from the hospital on November 20, 2019 by unknown people and later police discovered that the four workers were connected to the theft, hence their arrest.
However, the beds were later recovered on Wednesday after police interrogated some suspects who later exposed the medics.
The police are also holding four suspects who led them to where some of the stolen beds had been hidden.Â
Police in Bugiri district confirmed the arrest of the suspects who recorded statements and are currently in detention at Bugiri police station as police investigations continue vide case file number SRB 709/19, after which the suspects will be produced in court to face the charges.
