Katwe:Renowned singer Adam Mulwana, who composed the iconic ‘Towa Baasi Yako, Besigye Ameingia’ song, has been freed from Katwe police station, where he had been detained following a brutal arrest from a city hangout.
We have learnt Mulwana, whose song Dr Kizza Besigye used as his campaign slogan for the 2016 presidential elections, was arrested from VIP Gardens in Ndejje on Wednesday night, where he was performing his controversial song. Police had earlier warned the event organiser Haruna Mubiru to ensure Mulwana doesn’t perform the song.
Shortly after being roughed up by cops who violently dragged him off stage, Mulwana was detained at Ndejje Police Post from where he was transferred to Katwe Police Station as a result of intense pressure from Mulwana’s supporters in Ndejje.
However, even at Katwe Police, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) supporters led by Women League leader Ingrid Turinawe exerted pressure upon the cops, until they finally vomited him on Thursday afternoon, without any charges.
Shortly after Mulwana being released, Turinawe wrote thus on her social media ; “The #FreeAdam campaign has yielded positive results. Thank you comrades who camped at Ndejje police and Katwe Police. Thank you Hon. Roland Kaginda. Thank you everyone.”
