Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the People Power pressure group leader has said that he will continue with Consultations for contesting for Presidency ahead of the 2021 general elections.
Today Bobi Wine, who is also the Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, met senior police officers and officials of the Electoral Commission at their offices along Jinja Road, where they discussed the way forward in regard to his consultation meetings.
During a presser Bobi Wine and his team addressed after the meeting with EC officials and police officers, Bobi Wine said that “The police agreed to observe the law and to allow us hold the consultative meetings.”
He added that “However, we are going back to the scheduling board to reschedule all our consultation meetings.”
The development came after Bobi Wine, campaigning under the People Power opposition pressure group, failed to hold three of his scheduled consultation meetings in different parts of the country in his bid to challenge President Yoweri Museveni in the forthcoming 2021 elections.
EC spokesperson Jotham Taremwa yesterday said that “The Commission had observed a need to meet the aspirant to try and reach a compromise between him and the police.”
Consultative meetings earlier planned to take place in Gayaza, Gulu, and Lira were all dispersed by Police citing failure by Kyagulanyi to adhere to guidelines set out in the Public Order Management Act.
Bobi Wine wondered why the police were stopping him from holding consultations yet he had received a green light from the Electoral Commission.
People Power Spokesperson Joel Senyonyi said that ” We had initially planned to sue the Electoral Commission over the actions of police yet the process was endorsed by the Commission, but later agreed to meet the officials and iron out a few differences.
