Angry Residents Block Bushenyi-Sheema ‘Border’

Bushenyi: Residents of Kyeigombe B in Kyabugyimbi Sub-county, Bushenyi district, on Monday staged a demonstration and blocked boundary that connects Bushenyi district to Sheema municipality until further notice, because of impassible roads.

The angry and disappointed demonstrators staged their demonstration at Rwamukaara swamp, which connects Sheema municipality and Bushenyi, where they dug deep trenches  in the road and planted there plants to make sure no vehicle  passes through, until concerned authorities work on it.

Charles Muhwezi, the chairman LC 1 Kyeigombe B, who led the demonstration, said their road, particularly that swamp of Rwamukaara, was last renovated in 1990 and that by the time of their demonstration, it had become impassable.

“We have appealed to our Bushenyi district leaders to help us but all in vain. In November 2019 we decided to hire some strong men to carry people on their shoulders and backs to help them cross that swamp. So many vehicles have gotten stuck in this very swamp. Some vehicle which was carrying Ground nuts spent here  four days. Nlw we have decided to close this road until further notice.”

He added that “We are going to solicit money from  among ourselves as villagers to buy culverts and fix them there. Last term our children had almost failed to do exams because they had nowhere to pass until we hired people to carry them on their shoulders to Cross’s over.”

Some residents we found demonstrating like Amumpaire Vincent said that “Bushenyi leaders only listen to peoples’ problems during times of election campaigns. It’s now time for Bushenyi people to reject the  Shs1000 which is given to them by politicians who want votes.”

This reporter tried to talk to some authorities from Bushenyi district about the matter but they refused to answer his phone calls
