A 29-year-old nursing assistant from Najeera hospital in Nakawa Division, Kampala has been charged and remanded to Luzira Prison for allegedly raping and impregnating a patient.
Samuel Tumukuratire, a resident of Najeera appeared before City Hall Court grade one magistrate Moses Nabende on Monday.
However, he was not allowed to take plea because his case is only triable by the High Court.
Prosecution led by Jackie Kyansimire states that on June 5, 2017 at Najeera hospital, Tumukuratire sedated his female patient after which he had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
Prosecution further states that three months after the incident, the victim realised that she was pregnant yet she had taken a year without having sex because her husband was working overseas by then.
Tumukuratire was arrested and confessed to having raped many of his patients whom he first subjected to a compulsory HIV test.
He returns to court on August 18, 2017 for mention of his case as police investigations continue.
