Former Inspector General of Police Gen.Kale Kayihura has been released on court bail after spending over 80 days in Makindye military detention.
Gen.Kayihura, while appearing before the General court martial on Tuesday chaired by his junior officer Lt.Gen.Andrew Gutti argued that he deserved the bail because he needed to seek specialized medical care, among other issues.
Gen.Gutti granted the bail but restricted the general’s movements to only around Kampala and Wakiso,unless on permission.
His lawyer Peter Kabatsi cited the General’s ‘worrying’ health condition as one of the reasons why he needed bail He said his client needed to be taken out of the country for immediate treatment as soon as possible.
He also said his client has never been tried in any courts of law in Uganda and therefore was a clean man and law abiding.
Gen.Kayihura,according to his bail terms will be required to report to makindye court every first Monday of the month without fail. Col.Mugira is among his sureties.
Kayihura was arrested about 72 days ago for alleged issuance of ammunition to unauthorized groups like Boda boda 2010 and aiding the exportation among others.
