Parents Demand Headteacher’s Transfer Over Poor Results

By Atwakiire Micheal

Parents of Kashanjure Primary School in Kyangyenyi sub county Sheema district on Thursday morning carried out a demonstration against their headteacher Atuhaire Jannex whom they accuse of collapsing their school.

The angry parents told journalists that they used peaceful means to chase Atuhaire from their school through writing to Sheema district Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and District Education Officer (DEO) to transfer her but all in vain.

In a three paged letter signed by over 53 parents to the CAO, indicates 13 reasons as to why they don’t want Atuhaire to step in the school.

Some of the reasons include failure to coordinate both parents, PTA and school management committee, failure to give accountability of the school funds both from UPE and PTA, failure to give exams to pupils, intimidating teachers not to talk to any parent at school, using abusive language to parents, failure to give receipts to pupils after paying school fees, improper use of school funds for her own interests, failure to work with school management committees and many others.

Muhanguzi Herbert a member of school management committee said that “this headteacher you see, is a gospel singer, she therefore spends most of her time in parties, churches singing looking for money, she sometimes spends two weeks without stepping at school during day time. To know that this woman is big problem to us, she chased the school bursar and secretary because she wants to use the school money the way she wants, as I talk now she is the school head teacher, bursar and at the same time the secretary of her own, we have learnt that where she came from before she was brought here, she left the school down, now she wants to collapse ours too,” he said.

When contacted, the headteacher declined to comment but asked us to contact the DEO who posted her there.

Esau Willy Nshabiirwe the district education officer said that his office is handling the situation.
